Ben Philpott
Ben has 40-years’ experience in the TV and Film Industry.
In 2022 Ben co-founded Excitable Media, a content creation and development company based in Bristol. He is currently working on a slate of projects, including Bristol-based scripted projects that are either in late-stage development or being taken to market. He is an advocate for local production and has the goal of becoming a major regional producer supporting local production facilities and talent.
Having originally studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School he joined the camera department at the BBC Film Unit in Bristol and was immediately sent out as a Clapper Loader on his first drama, “The Firm” directed by Alan Clarke and starring Gary Oldman. From that point he was hooked and went on to build a successful career as a freelance, BAFTA-nominated Director of Photography, working on both scripted and non-scripted projects at home and abroad. He took a break from shooting to bring up a young family, and set up his own company, Sky Rocket Media, to provide a range of media consultancy and international business development services, working alongside leading content commissioners, distributors and production companies. Always intending to return to the sharp end of production, Ben began developing his own projects.
Ben is a member of PACT, RTS and GBCT.
